Hey beauties. For a while I’ve been thinking about starting blog posts on actual makeup looks where I could give you mini reviews on products used as well as their dupes. I LOVE ME SOME DUPES. Hope you enjoy these posts. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them…
So last week Thursday, 3rd August, (or is it the week before last already ??) I celebrated by 22nd birthday. Normally my birthday tends to be quite a big affair but I just wanted to have a laid back night and DRESS UP of course.
I created this browny/orange look for a little dinner with my family. PS: If you love pastas and pizza then you need to get down to Doppio Zero at The Pearl’s in Umhlanga. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. The dessert took me to heaven though. I’m a sucker for anything chocolate.
Okay let’s get to this face beat…
Primer: Smashbox Photofinish Primer. If you’ve been following my posts then you know this is my all time favourite. The Maybelline Instant Pore Eraser is a pretty good dupe for it though. I tend to use the Maybelline more on a every day basis
Foundation: Clinique Anti blemish solutions will always be my ultimate foundation. I have full a review that you can read right here.
Concealer: I used the LA Girl HD Conceal in the corrector shade yellow. Yes, it’s the corrector shade. I find that my skin is smack bang in the middle of the colour spectrum so the yellow corrector works for me. LA Girl, however, does have a huge range of shades so you’re bound to find you perfect concealer shade with them.
Lips: NYX Retractable Lipliner in Nude and Liquid Lingerie in Push-Up.
Powder: I baked my under eyes with the amazing Yardley Loose Powder in translucent. Yardley has definitely stepped their game up and this loose powder is my FAVOURITE product from their range. I set the rest of my face with the Clinique Setting Powder in 08.
Contour: I did a light powder contour with the Benefit Hoola bronzer. I’m still testing this new addition to my collection so just leave me a comment if you’d like a full review on it. I also bronzed up the face with the Wet ‘n Wild MegaGlow Contouring Palette and used the matte highlight under the eyes for some extra brightening. I will forever be repurchasing this product from Wet ‘n Wild.
Blush: Clinique Bashful Blush 120. This is such a natural satin blush perfect for every skin tone. It’s a bit on the pricey side so I’d recommend Essence berry me up if you’re looking for a colour dupe. Berry me up, however, is a matt finish whereas Bashful is more of a satin finish.
Now for the Eyes:
I’m not such a huge winged liner fan. It’s great for these instagram trends but I just don’t think it suits my eyes. Maybe I need to get used to the drama of it but for this look I left it out and went for a more sultry look. I love giving my eyes more of a sultry feel with a nude lip.
I used my Swiitch Beauty SlaysForDays palette for this entire look. I’ve numbered the shadows in the picture below to make it a little easier for you to follow.
Transition shades: 1, 2.
Outer V and crease: 4
Lid: 4 and 5. I used a little of 6 for some sparkle in the centre of the lid space.
Brow bone and inner corner highlight: 7, 8. I also used 7 as my actual face highlight.
Lower lash line: 3,4,5
Liner: Inglot Liquid Black liner
Brows: Benefit Goof Proof in 03
Mascara: Clinique High Impact and Loreal Telescopic. I have a full review of this dynamite combination that you can read here.
I’m trying to get out my comfort zone and experiment with some colour so let me know if you’d like to see more makeup posts like this in the future.
Telkom decided to go offline during my birthday week so I wasn’t able to post much of the happenings on Instagram. I had an amazing week spent with my favourites. PS: I need to stop wearing that damn hair tie on my wrist in all my pictures. Gosh.
Till next time, Shiara
