Contouring has taken the beauty industry by storm and this trend is here to stay!
During my short holiday in Cape Town last August, I managed to pick up the last NYX Highlight and Contour Palette at the V&A Waterfront Clicks. This happened to be my last day in Cape Town as well. Lucky, I know right?? 😀
Kwa-Zulu Natal, currently, does not have any of these palettes BUT a little birdy informed me that the palettes (and other newer products) will be arriving early Spring so I guess this review is right on time? 😛
Many have a preconceived notion that contouring is extremely difficult but I beg to differ. Anyone, with some practice and You Tube videos, can master this trend.
So this palette contains only powders with 4 ‘highlight’ shades and 4 ‘contour’ shades. There are 3 shimmers and 5 mattes.
My verdict: I love this palette. Love! Love! Love!
Lets get to the palette – starting with how I feel about the shade range.
This palette is extremely versatile and can be used on ALL skin tones.
The 2 matte ‘highlight’ shades are perfect if you have a pink /yellow/olive undertone and works well for setting your under eye concealer or cleaning up your contour if you’re one that prefers a ‘sharp’ or precise look.
The contour shades range from your light brown/grey to a much deeper brown. I love that this palette also includes bronzing shades because I think that it’s an essential part of a flawless contour. I personally use the shade ‘sculpt’ to contour and the shade ‘hollow’ to deepen it up depending on my mood 😛
The ‘contour’ shade, Toffee, has tiny gold shimmers which could be perfect as a goldish highlight for deeper skin tones. The shade ‘ice queen’ is the first shimmer shade in the palette and lives up to it’s name as it is your stark ice white highlight. The shade ‘nectar’ is the second shimmer shade and that gives your more of a champagne highlight which is beautiful on every skin tone.
Word of warning: an extremely light hand is needed when using this palette (especially with the contour shades) as a little goes a looong way. The highlight shimmer shades are definitely wearable during the day and night as they are not too loud or too subtle – they’re perfect if you love building up your highlight. I don’t find these shades chalky at all but I did find that the shade ‘cream’ (the yellow matte shade) didn’t set as well when I used a thicker concealer but nothing that a little MAC Fix + couldn’t solve.
I love that you can replace single shades in this palette instead of having to repurchase the whole palette. We all tend to have our favourite in a palette and I hate repurchasing a full palette when all I need is one little thing. You feel me? 😦 NYX has all the shades in this palette available as singles. Thank you NYX 😦
You know why I love this palette??? It has also become one of my favourite eyeshadow palettes. 😀 I prefer going more natural on the eyes so I’m loving these brown shades in the crease and highlight shades in the inner corner.
I think this palette is definitely worth every penny.
